14. Sandpiper Waves

Folkestone, UK

6th January 2012

The end of a five-day birdwatching trip around Dungeness brought me and my former school friend to Folkestone Harbour to see the wintering purple sandpipers (a rare bird in this part of the UK). With their bright golden legs and understated purplish-grey plumage, they were too beautiful not to be photographed on the wave-patterned rocks. Like with my Canadian chipmunks photos, I used the foreground (here, a big rock) to frame the subject, and focused on the lovely contrast of bluish-greys and yellows in the wavy patterns.
