13. Sun Through Trees

Galloway, UK

7th November 2010

The Edinburgh University Photographic Society led a weekend trip to the Galloway Night Sky Park near Dumfries, on the bitterly cold west coast of Scotland, to photograph star trails and meteor showers. The skies were phenomenal as we had hoped, and all of us thought that that would be the best the weekend would get. A cold night in a tent meant that I woke and got up three hours later with the sun rise. That was just as phenomenal. Entering the woods, roe deer bounded ahead of me, the grass glistened with frost, a black grouse called in the distance - and in the midst of this, the sun shot through the trees, casting its impression on the forest floor. I struggled to capture the scene, but this one is my favourite as the light is so heavenly and autumnal. Certainly worth one unpleasant night in a tent, I think.
