12. Sunset Promenade

Normandy, France

9th April 2010

After a photographically quiet week at our cottage in Normandy, a quite literally golden photo opportunity arose on the last evening. We were out cycling and, as it turned 8.30pm, the sky filled with orange-gold light. I pedalled quickly home, rushed for the camera, and hurried into the field as the sun lowered itself behind the trees. Now to find a subject. After a little searching, I found a ladybird walking up a stalk - perfect. I gently bent the stalk so that the ladybird would be walking along it rather than up it, and framed my shot with the most golden part of the sky directly behind it, casting the insect in silhouette.
