The garden pond was full of duckweed, so I spent the best part of a day clearing it out. I noticed that this edible frog was using some to keep afloat so, seeing that it had tolerated the constant swishing of my net, I kitted myself out in waterproofs and waded through the sludge to photograph it. The water was very nippy, and I'm pretty sure some dragonfly nymphs got into my trousers, but it was all worth it to get close to this amazing thing.
