04. The Butterfly Nest

Normandy, France

2oth June 2011

This photo is part of an evening shoot that I did one evening last summer with one of my favourite European butterflies, the marbled white. Our field had transformed into a summer meadow full of daisies and thistles which the butterflies loved to feed on - and, as I was soon to find out, sleep on. By half past ten, everything was asleep, including this one which had made a 'nest' within the daisy's petals. I didn't want to disturb its rest, so I used a bit of kitchen paper to diffuse my bright flash. It was a lovely scene to have stumbled upon.
